The Total Agent Series is an exciting, information-packed educational series that covers the entire spectrum of
Post Licensure (PL) requirements. If you are not required to take PL credits, you may earn Continuing Education (CE) credits.  Agents often worry about not getting enough real-world instruction, so here it is - all in one convenient series!

Week 1

March 5 - Whom Do You Represent?   Instructor: Mark Worrilow
6 pm – 9 pm

 

Agency law can be complicated, and if you are not careful, it can also be costly. With so many changes in business models for real estate firms, questions of agency arise every day. In fact, VREB reports that its number one complaint deals primarily with proper agency representation. Mark Worrilow -  Mark was the recipient of PWAR’s Presidential Award for 2010 and the recipient of PWAR's Instructor of the Year Award for 2010.  He was also the PWAR Education Committee Chair from 2004 – 2010.  Mark is the broker/owner of Confidence Realty in Dumfries.  He has been in the Real Estate business since 1997 and began his career as an instructor while serving in the Navy. He holds his ABR and SFR designations and received his B.S. from the Naval Academy. He is a retired Commander in the U.S. Navy.   


March 6 – VHDA/State/County Assistance   Instructor: Laura Triplett
6 pm – 9 pm

This course will benefit real estate professionals and increase protection of the general public by creating awareness in providing information to real estate professionals on first time homebuyer opportunities. This will increase likelihood that first time homebuyers will be able to take advantage of the full benefit available to them.  They will also be made aware of new government programs recently made available helps to promote affordable housing initiatives and puts borrowers in programs that benefit and protect them.  CE:  3 Hours Real Estate Related   PL:  3 Hours Finance

 

Laura Triplett – Laura is Vice President and Branch Manager of SunTrust Mortgage.  She has more that 17 years of experience in the mortgage industry and has been named as a top loan originator by the Mortgage Originator magazine.  Prior to joining SunTrust Laura was Vice President of George Mason Mortgage and a Sr. Loan Officer at Signet Bank. 

 

March 7 – Foreclosure, REO’s and Short Sales       Instructor:  David Field
6 pm – 9 pm

This class is an in-depth look at the short sale process and how realtors can prepare to represent their clients most effectively, along with discussions of the foreclosure procedures of the lenders and how it may impact your negotiations.

David Field, counsel to the Lake Ridge branch of MBH Settlement Group, he has conducted hundreds of residential real estate closings.  Over the years Mr. Field has been a guest lecturer for many organizations.  He has lectured as part of a Virginia CLE program on criminal defences; he has lectured on occasion for the Fairfax Bar Association; most recently he has taught many classes related to real estate transactions to local real estate agents.


 

March 8 – Prospecting        Instructor:  Mike Minnery
6 pm – 9 pm

This course is designed to help the real estate professional understand and maximize the application of prospecting.  This session will present the student with information on how to better market them and how to prospect potential clients.  In this course the agent will learn how to manage their growing business, motivate potential buyers/sellers and create better productivity.

Mike MinneryMike was licensed as a Virginia Real Estate Sales Associate in 1969 while serving in the United States Air Force.  He is the 2007 Past-President of the REALTOR® Association of Prince William.  He has served on numerous PWAR Committees.  Mike is a VAR Certified Ethics Instructor and Mediator as well as a NAR Quad Ethics Instructor.  He teaches Prospecting, Broker Management and Ethics at PWAR.  He holds the ABR, CRB, e-PRO and GRI designations.  He is also a member of the PWAR Top Producers Club.  Mike is a mentor and sales development trainer within his company.


March 10 - Quad Ethics - Instructor: Mike Minnery
 Saturday   8 am – 11 am

Don’t find yourself on the front page of the business section of the Washington Post for violating ethical standards. Honesty is still the best policy! March 10 - Fair Housing - Instructor: Ray Courchene
Saturday 1 pm – 4 pm
 

 

With the continuing diversification of the population, treating the public fairly is of great concern. Learn how your words and actions can easily misrepresent your clients’ and your own beliefs. Ray Courchene -Ray was licensed as a Virgina Real Estate Sales Associate in 1984. He has served on numerous committees while being a member of the REALTOR® Association of Prince William.  He has taught Property Management courses along with Fair Housing for many years.  He is an active Education Committee member and contributes is knowledge to help better the education within PWAR.  He holds a GRI, CRS and NARPM Designation along with his Associate Broker License.  


Week 2

March 12 - What Lies Beneath?   Instructor: John Pollard
6 pm – 9 pm

Students will receive general background information on underground oil tanks. The focus primarily on residential and commercial heating oil tanks as well as farm and residential motor fuel. Discussion will cover risks involved as well as laws and regulations plus due diligence/leakage inspection.

John Pollard – John is the owner of Pollard Environmental, LLC a Virginia Class A Contractor specializing in inspections and compliance of petroleum underground storage tanks.  Since founding the company in 1998 they have inspected over 3,000 underground tanks in Virginia.  John is a Virginia Certified Professional Geologist.  He received his B.S. from Notre Dame and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences from UVA. 


March 13 - Internet Technology   Instructor: Mark Worrilow
6 pm – 9 pm

Technology is the future! The Real Estate industry hasn’t been spared its impact. This class will teach you how to ride the tech wave all the way to the bank. You will gain insight on the usefulness of the internet, web sites and PDA’s. You will also be exposed to computer software programs that every real estate agent must have. Enhance your business with technology!

March 14 - Visionary Development   Instructor: Ray Utz
6 pm – 9 pm

How do communities change their face and appearance for the long term?  How do communities set standards for building development? How do citizens come to consensus on the physical needs of their community? City of Manassas Community Development Director, Liz Via (Fall Class) and Chief of Long Range Planning for Prince William County, Ray Utz (Spring Class) will answer these questions and provide insight on how local zoning and land use work together to bring community vision to life.

Ray Utz has worked for over 15 years in the planning field, is a certified planner, and is currently the Chief of Long Range Planning for Prince William County.  Ray has spent the past four years in Prince William managing a staff of 17 planners and technicians overseeing the rezoning process and working to incorporate smart growth principles into County policies. 


March 15 -The Elements of the Contract   Instructor: Art Grace
6 pm – 9 pm

  

Contracts can be daunting. Figuring out what each paragraph means and how it all interrelates is very important. Not understanding the contract can lead to legal problems for you as an agent. Your best protection is knowledge. Art Grace is sure to help you enhance your understanding and ability to communicate the element of the real estate contract.

Arthur Grace - Art was the recipient of PWAR’s Instructor of the Year Award for 2009.  He is a partner with the law firm of Grace Stuart PLC where his primary responsibility is to manage all aspects of MBH Settlement Group’s operations in Western Prince William and Fauquier Counties.  This includes but is not limited to real estate settlements and managing all related issues of real property law.  Art received his J.D. from the University of Richmond T.C. Williams School of Law and is a member of the Virginia Bar Association.
