On March 30, 2020, Governor Northam issued Executive Order 55. In it, Governor Northam lays out his latest directive to “stay at home” and only travel when it is necessary or essential. As this relates to the real estate community, REALTORS® may continue to operate real estate businesses but MUST do so in accordance with Executive Order 53 and the CDC-recommended guidelines.

At this time, functions and gatherings with more than 10 people are prohibited. This is why we strongly recommend REALTORS® DO NOT host open houses. Do as much work as possible remotely or virtually. Interact directly with clients or colleagues relating to real estate transactions ONLY when necessary, and only do so under strict adherence of the CDC-recommended guidelines, which include maintaining a physical distance of 6 feet between individuals.

Now is the time to be judicious, pragmatic, and prudent. There is no question about the benefit REALTORS® and the real estate industry bring to Virginia. Governor Northam and his team are well aware of that. We can all show our leaders that the Virginia real estate community is part of the solution and is actively involved in the state and national efforts to “flatten the curve.”

Thank you for your close consideration and adherence to the updated orders. Please continue to monitor both VAR’s  COVID-19 Resources and Updates page and our Facebook page for frequent updates.
