Where will Manassas students go after redistricting?
On Monday, February 22 and Wednesday, February 24, Mayfield Intermediate School will host a School Board Meeting and redistricting presentation from 7 to 9 p.m. The Monday meeting will focus on students from pre-k to fourth grade while the Wednesday meeting will focus on students in fifth and sixth grade. The city school division has been working on redistricting, particularly within elementary schools.

Which bills passed and failed in the first half of Virginia’s 2016 General Assembly Session
A compromise on gun legislation, reforms to hospital and clinic regulations, efforts to combat domestic violence and disagreement over charter schools have highlighted the first half of the 2016 General Assembly session. Tuesday marked its midpoint and the deadline for bills to pass the House of Delegates or the Senate. Each chamber will spend the remaining weeks working on bills that passed the other chamber. Lawmakers also will outline two-year budget proposals Sunday and work to merge them before sending a spending plan to Gov. Terry McAuliffe for approval.

2 in GOP to square off for 8th District nomination

Two contenders have filed for the Republican nomination to take on U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (D-8th). Charles Hernick and Michael Webb had been the only two contenders to announce bids for the nomination, and each met the Feb. 12 deadline, 8th District GOP chairman Mark Kelly told the Sun Gazette.

Comstock challenger picks up DCCC backing

The expected Democratic challenger to U.S. Rep. Barbara Comstock (R-10th) has picked up support from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). The group has placed Luann Bennett in its “Red to Blue” initiative, aimed at supporting Democratic candidates who have the potential of unseating Republican incumbents in November. Bennett is “a strong candidate, ready to serve and protect Virginians,” DCCC chairman Ben Ray Luján said in a statement. “She is the right person to make Washington work for every family in Northern Virginia.”
